Lyrics by Taylor Swift That Made All of Us Ugly Cry

Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift is one of those stars that’s here to stay. Taytay has been in the industry since her teen years and just turned 28 years old this day, December 13! HAPPY BDAY TAYTAY! In honor of her musical prowess, we listed down her most painful lyrics EVER.

Let’s start with where it all began: TEARDROPS ON MY GUITAR. This song launched Taylor Swift on top of everyone’s radar. If you didn’t cry at “I wonder if he knows he’s all I think about at night.” or “He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar. The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star. He’s the song in the car I keep singing. Don’t know why I do.”, then there must be something wrong with you.

And let’s not forget this golden line from Tim McGraw: “And I was right there beside him all summer long. And then the time we woke up to find that summer gone.”

If you didn’t hear Cold as You, it’s one of most painful songs. Lines like “And you do what you want ’cause I’m not what you wanted” and “Every smile you fake is so condescending counting all the scars you made. And now that I’m sitting here thinking it through, I’ve never been anywhere cold as you” really make you wonder what type of fuckboy was Taytay with.

One of the first songs Taylor released revealing something very personal was the shocking reveal (to end all reveals) about Joe Jonas for the hoe that he is/was (no judgment, he still hot tho). When she sings “You should have said no, you should have said no, you should have thought twice before you let it all go… come back to me.”, all the girls who were cheated on cried a bit. We know we did.

“Why would you wanna make the very first scar? Why would you wanna break a perfectly good heart?” asked every girl ever on her first heartbreak while listening to A Perfectly Good Heart.

Anyone who’s had a crush on someone who was in a relationship probably listened to Tay’s Invisible 5098 times. While the whole song is a stab to the chest, let’s just highlight this: “We could be a beautiful miracle, unbelievable, instead of just invisible… She can’t see the way your eyes light up when you smile.”

Moving into Taylor Swift’s Fearless Album, we just have to highlight Forever & Always as the ultimate anthem for the fuckbois/fuccgirls and softbois/softgirls in our lives. “Cause one second it was perfect, Now you’re halfway out the door.” When she sings “You didn’t mean it baby” we all had a middle finger up in the air. This too was about Joe Jonas, whoops.

In the same album is The Way I Loved You, with the line “I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain and it’s 2AM and I’m cursing your name.” A line that personally attacked every person who wasn’t over someone.

One of the saddest songs in the Taylor Swift arsenal is Breathe. As much as we want to put the whole song here, we’ll stick to the major lines. You def have to listen to this track if you haven’t. It’s like salt, lemon, more salt, and more lemon on a broken wound. “I can’t breathe without you but I have to” and “Music starts playing like the end of a sad movie. It’s the kind of ending you don’t really wanna see” are just two of the lines that make this one of the killer songs.

Tay’s You’re Not Sorry is the OG move on song pre-New Rules by Dua Lipa. Don’t pretend like you didn’t yell this line after your first break-up: “You don’t have to call anymore, I won’t pick up the phone. This is the last straw, don’t wanna hurt anymore.”

WHITE HORSE. WHITE HORSE. WHITE HORSE. “I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairytale…This ain’t Hollywood, this is a small town.” WE’RE NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING!

In the Fearless album, Taylor Swift was probably going through a ton of shit from boys that didn’t deserve her. It’s also in the same album that she wrote The Other Side of the Door with the lyrics “I said “Leave,” but all I really want is you to stand outside my window throwing pebbles screaming, “I’m in love with you.”” was totally what we all wanted. Scrap that, it’s totally what we all still want in a relationship. Let’s not forget this line, too: “If you know everything, tell me why you couldn’t see, when I left I wanted you to chase after me.” OH MY GOD.

As we enter the Speak Now Album it’s worth-noting that Tay was no longer dating some high school cuties. Hence, THIS IS THE JOHN MAYER AND TAYLOR LAUTNER ERA.

Back to December was obviously for our fave teen wolf Taylor Lautner. Any person who let go of the right relationship at the wrong time cried when Tay sang: “Wishing I’d realized what I had when you were mine. I’d go back to December, turn around and make it alright.”

As a final song to Joe Jonas, Taylor Swift wrote Last Kiss WHICH IS ONE OF THE SADDEST SONGS EVER. WHY DON’T HER ALBUMS COME WITH FREE PACKS OF TISSUES?! “Never thought we’d have a last kiss” and “I’ll go sit on the floor wearing your clothes. All that I know is I don’t know how to be something you miss” are the saddest songs written in the history of sad songs.

100% sure Taylor Swift binges rom-coms like the rest of us mortals when she released If This Was A Movie. We all related when she sang: “Come back, come back, come back to me like you would, you would if this was a movie. Stand in the rain outside ’til I came out.”

Notorious lover-of-all, John Mayer was obviously the topic of Dear John. While their relationship gave us song collabs between the two music giants, Taylor probably wrote more songs post-John than During-John. “I lived in your chess game but you changed the rules every day” and “Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress cried the whole way home,” were lines that all reminds us of our favorite almost-relationship. “You are an expert at sorry and keeping lines blurry.” PHEW. @ALLTHEHEARTBREAKRS

When Taylor Swift pair up with Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, EXPECT TEARS. Also, The Last Time was rumored to be about Jake Gyllenhaal (the whole Red Album was rumored to be about Jake). “I find myself at your door, just like all those times before. I’m not sure how I got there, all roads—they lead me here.” is how the song starts, THE SONG ISN’T EVEN OVER YET AND WE’RE ALREADY CRYING.

The RED album era was the time Taylor started making happy songs with painful lyrics. I Knew You Were Trouble is def one of these songs. “He was long gone when he met me And I realize the joke is on me,” pertaining to One Direction’s Harry Styles.

Another song dedicated to 1D’s Harry Styles is Come Back, Be Here. A song for all the LDRs, this song has the lyric “New York… be here. But you’re in London and I break down. It’s not fair that you’re not around.”

Special mention in the Red Album: Sad Beautiful Tragic. “In dreams I meet you in warm conversation. We both wake in lonely beds, different cities and time is taking its sweet time erasing you. And you’ve got your demons, and, darling, they all look like me.” #ANGSAKIT

The 1989 album was very pop, compared to Taylor’s record of country music. More upbeat pop than sad and sappy break-up songs on this album. I Wish You Would is a perfect example, it’s upbeat but has lyrics like: “You’re thinking that I hate you now ’cause you still don’t know what I never said.” OMG SCANDALOUS.

Bad Blood is this singer’s first attempt at a totally new sound, the truth in the lyrics however, are still the same. “Now we got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love.” TOTALLY ABOUT HER BEEF WITH KATY PERRY.

As we enter the Reputation era of her career, we also see Taylor turn from the heartbroken to the heartbreaker. Getaway Car was for Tom Hiddleston, who she dated in the midst of the whole Calvin Harris/Kanye/Katy Perry hurricane. Tom was her refuge and Tom went deep into the relationship with his whole heart, unknowing he was a rebound. The lyrics “I wanted to leave him I needed a reason” and “we were cursed, we never had a shotgun shot in the dark”, show that our country singer was now a city girl who knows it’s eat or be eaten. It’s actually surprising that Loki was at the losing end in this relationship.

Also in this era is a ton of dagger lines towards Calvin Harris, who we all thought was the one for T. Swift. I Did Something Bad had lines like “I never trust a playboy, but they love me. So I fly ’em all around the world and I let them think they saved me.”

It’s worth nothing that Taylor’s writing has not only covered her exes, but also her beef and drama with other celebs. Katy Perry, Kanye, Kim K., etc. The lines: “They’re burning all the witches, even if you aren’t one. They got their pitchforks and proof, their receipts and reasons,” made headlines as an obvious attack towards Kanye, Kim, and Katy.

These totally show the fighter side of what used to be a meek girl from a small town crying about boys, into a girl who’s not going to take anymore shit from anyone.
